Brad Lidge To Retire As A Phille; Curt Schilling Tabbed For Wall Of Fame

Closer Brad Lidge, one of the many heroes on the 2008 World Champion Phillies, will ceremoniously retire as a Phillie before the 7:05 p.m. game against San Francisco.  Lidge clinched the World Series title by striking out Tampa Bay’s Eric Hinske in Game 5.

“I had my greatest moment at Citizens Bank Park and I would like to officially retire as a member of the Phillies organization,” explained the 36-year-old Lidge, who will throw out the first ball.  Lidge will remain in town for the rest of the Alumni weekend festivities.

Previous Alumni who have also chosen to retire as a Phillie include: Doug Glanville (2005), Mike Lieberthal (2008) and Pat Burrell (2012).

Roy Halladay's Shoulder Surgery Was A Success

The Phillies just released this statement about Roy Halladay's surgery.

“Roy had successful shoulder surgery yesterday. He had an arthroscopic evaluation and underwent debridement of his labrum and rotator cuff as well as removal of an inflamed bursa. He'll begin a progressive rehabilitation program and if all goes well, he may possibly begin a throwing program in 6-8 weeks.”

It sounds like we won't see Doc until beginning-to-mid August.

ESPN Senior Baseball Analyst Jayson Stark joins Missanelli to discuss the Phillies pitching situation.  Missanelli questions the idea of Hamels being injured, but Stark mentions his velocity reading is not indicating a possible injury.  Stark points out how Hamels command is an issue along with his pitch selection being different this season.  Stark tells Missanelli, "He has no faith in his curveball."  To wrap up the Phillie update, Missanelli and Stark talk about the signing of Carlos Zambrano.
