Josh Hamilton To The Angels To The Tune Of Five Years, $125 Million

The Angels have done it again.
Last year they signed Albert Pujols to a ten-year deal at the Winter Meetings. Today they signed Josh Hamilton to a five year, $125 million contract.
Not too shabby.
Hamilton, the first free agent since Alex Rodriguez to come off of a 40 homerun, 120 RBI season, joins a star-studded lineup featuring the aforementioned Pujols, reigning rookie of the year Mike Trout, Howie Kendrick and Kendrys Morales among others.
Hamilton is a career .304 hitter with 161 homeruns and 553 RBIs. He is coming off a season in which he hit 43 homeruns, drove in 128, scored 103 runs with a .285/.354/.577/.930 slashline.
Oh, and according to MLBTradeRumors.com, the Angels are trying to acquire NL Cy Young winner R.A. Dickey. Meanwhile, the Phillies are offering two-year, $14 million contracts to 39-year-old outfielders on the downside of their career. Makes total sense.
The onus is now on the Phillies to acquire a player like Nick Swisher or Cody Ross but after news broke today that they were attempting to court Ichiro, who really knows where the front office's priorities lie?
