PHILLIES ACQUIRE REVERE FROM TWINS

Center fielder Ben Revere was acquired by the Phillies from the Minnesota Twins in exchange for right-handed pitchers Vance Worley and Trevor May, Senior Vice President & General Manager Ruben Amaro Jr. announced today.

Revere, 24, hit .294 with 13 doubles, six triples, 32 RBI and 40 stolen bases in 124 games last season.  A left-handed batter, he hit .314 against left-handed pitchers.  Revere ranked third in the American League in stolen bases in 2012, tied for third in infield hits (37) and 10th in triples, leading the team in all three categories.  He led the Twins outfielders in assists (8) and finished second in hits (150), behind only Joe Mauer (174).

“Ben is an outstanding, young, controllable center fielder who fits nicely with our club,” said Amaro.

A first-round selection (28th overall) by the Twins in the 2007 First-Year Player Draft, Revere is a career .278 hitter with 64 RBI and 74 stolen bases in 254 games, all with Minnesota.  He’s made 126 career starts in center field, 84 in right field and 19 in left field.

Worley went 6-9 with a 4.20 ERA in 23 starts for the Phillies last season.  In 53 career major league games (46 starts), he is 18-13 with a 3.50 ERA.  The 25-year-old was originally a third-round selection by the Phillies in the 2008 First-Year Player Draft.

May, 23, spent the 2012 season with double-A Reading and went 10-13 with a 4.87 ERA in 28 starts.  He had 151 strikeouts in 149.2 innings pitched.  May was selected in the fourth round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft by the Phillies.
