The Philadelphia Eagles open their 2013 regular season with a nationally televised Monday Night Football game against quarterback Robert Griffin III and the Washington Redskins on September 9 at FedEx Field, the first of two nationally broadcast games in the opening three weeks of the Eagles’ season. The game is part of an ESPN doubleheader and kicks off at 7:10 p.m. It is just the second time in history that the Eagles have kicked off the regular season on Monday Night Football.

Following the road opener, Philadelphia plays the San Diego Chargers at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday, September 15, and then hosts the Kansas City Chiefs and head coach Andy Reid in a Thursday Night broadcast on September 19. The game will be televised on the NFL Network at 8:25 p.m. The schedule also features three consecutive road games at Denver (Sunday, September 29), New York Giants (Sunday, October 6) and Tampa Bay (Sunday, October 13).

Philadelphia has five games in the critical month of December as the Eagles come off of their bye week with a Sunday, December 1 game at Lincoln Financial Field against Arizona, followed by another home contest against the Detroit Lions. The Eagles then travel to Minnesota to play the Vikings on Sunday, December 15 before concluding the regular season home schedule against Chicago on Sunday, December 22. A trip to Cowboys Stadium ends the regular season as the Eagles play at the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, December 29.

Other scheduling nuggets:

  • Monday Night Madness … The Eagles open the season on Monday night for the first time since 2005 when they kicked off the year at Atlanta
  • Book Ends … The club will begin the season against the Redskins for the tenth time and first time since 1996. This also marks the eighth overall instance the Eagles and Redskins will face off on Monday Night Football … In addition, this will be the fourth time in six years and sixth time overall that the Eagles will conclude the season against the Dallas Cowboys
  • Bye-ing Time … The Eagles bye week in Week 12 is the latest bye week the team has received since 2000 when it fell in Week 16 (December 17th)
  • Home cooking ... The Birds are 13-5 at home all time against the four teams currently residing in the AFC West, including a 5-1 mark since 2000
  • Road Warriors … The team will hit the road for three consecutive weeks for the first time since the 2006 season, when they went 3-0 against the NFC East from Weeks 14-16
  • Welcome Back … The Birds will travel to Denver and will welcome the Chargers to Philadelphia, both firsts since 2005
  • Northern Exposure … Including the playoffs, the Eagles are 18-10 (.643 winning percentage) against the NFC North since 2000
  • Familiar Foes … They will play the Chicago Bears for the sixth time in seven seasons. The past five contests between the two teams have been decided by six points or fewer
