MARCH 15, NOVACARE COMPLEX – The Eagles today completed a trade with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, acquiring WR Arrelious Benn and a seventh-round selection in the 2013 NFL Draft in exchange for Philadelphia’s sixth-round selection in the 2013 NFL Draft and a conditional draft pick in 2014.

Originally a second-round selection (39th overall) of the Buccaneers in 2010, Benn (6-2, 220)   recorded 59 receptions for 862 yards and five touchdowns during his three-year stint in Tampa Bay. Despite a knee injury that landed him on Injured Reserve in 2012, Benn, 24, led the Buccaneers with 13 kickoff returns for 306 yards in only eight games. In 2011, he started all 14 games in which he appeared and recorded career highs in catches (30), receiving yards (441) and touchdowns (3).

A former Big Ten Freshman of the Year honoree, Benn starred collegiately at the University of Illinois where he finished his career tied for fourth in Illinois history with 159 catches and ranked sixth in school history with 2,221 career receiving yards. As a sophomore in 2008, Benn garnered first-team All-Big Ten honors as he became the first Illini receiver since 2002 and only the fourth player in school history to surpass 1,000 yards receiving. Named a team captain in his sophomore and junior seasons, he finished fourth in Illinois career annals with 3,613 all-purpose yards, and caught at least one pass in 35 of his 36 career contests for the Illini.

A native of Washington, DC, Benn attended Dunbar High School where he was earned first-team All-American accolades from USA Today, Parade and SuperPrep. Benn was also recognized as the EA Sports Walter Payton Award recipient, which is awarded annually to the most-dedicated high school athlete in the country, following his senior season.
