1/6 - 4/30 Philadelphia musician fights breast cancer

Philadelphia's own rock band, Da Rezarekt, was faced with a crisis when they heard their guitar player had cancer. But instead of laying down and dying, they decided to use their talents to Fight!! The title of their new single, Fight!!,  describes the attitude and strength of their guitarist Marisa "Guitar Grrrl" Salazar. She wanted to make a song that captures her hard rock spirit so they wrote it and it all magically came together from getting it recorded to making a video for it.

Their album BANG DA BRICKS was just released this past September and then they got hit with the bricks but it's all good. This single Fight!! will give them the fire they need to withstand this hiatus and allow Marisa to heal and get trough her treatments. Now Fight!!! is available for download for only 99 cent or you can make a donation for any amount that will go to Marisa to help offset her cost of living while going throught this terrible ordeal. Hope you enjoy it, play it and spread the word that Da Rezarekt don't die, we multiply!

2/11 Marcus Hook's Community Day

The Community of Marcus Hook is planning a community day on February 11, 2012 to raise money and awareness of the impact resulting from the looming closure of the ConocoPhillips and Sunoco Inc Oil Refineries in their community.  The day is aimed to raise money for the Union Workers and their families who will begin losing their jobs February 29, 2012.  Festivities include a car show, dart tournaments, food, raffles, poker run and rally to gain support from Local Politicians and Pennsylvania State Governor Tom Corbett.  Festivities will begin at 1 pm on February 11, 2012 and run until 6 PM at the following Marcus Hook businesses: Clanks Bar, Connolly’s Pub, Keyote’s Pub, Lefty’s Irish Pub, The Star Hotel and Sweeney’s Pub.  Union officials said thousands of workers in Marcus Hook and Trainer will be unemployed by the end of the month. Officials say that as many as 20,000 other jobs in the region depend on the refineries. The impact of the refineries will be impacted hardest in Marcus Hook and Trainer but will have an effect on much of Delaware County.  Also noted is the community impact of the refineries’ closure, with Marcus Hook losing $1 million in annual tax revenues and the Chichester School District losing up to $3.8 million annually.

2/18 Benefit for former 97.5 The Fanatic Intern, Kevin Szafranski

On November 17, 2011, the mother of Kevin Szafranski returned home to an unimaginable horror to find that her 23 year old son died in his sleep the night before. The lives of so many were forever changed that day. Kevin, a former 97.5 The Fanatic intern, a 2006 graduate of Bensalem High School, a 2011 graduate of Penn State Abington, avid fan of all Philadelphia Sports, Rambler Baseball Player and Penn State Baseball Player, was one of the special people that those of us who knew him, were lucky to have had, even for such a short time.

Kevin is survived by his parents, Donna and Stan, and sister, Nicole. He did such special and amazing things in his short life and his bright blue eyes and huge smile will never leave our memories. Kevin’s dad wrote on his Facebook Page, “When Kevin died, a part of me died that day…”, “Kevin was our world….”,”he is now our angel, make a wish and I hope he makes it come true.” Kevin’s mom posts updates as well. “It overwhelms and breaks my heart the way Kevin touched so many people. I thought I was the only one that LOVED him that much.”

Those of us who knew and loved Kevin, and we are many, can just imagine the man he would have been and still struggle with the unfairness of this truly unique and special person being taken so soon.

A benefit and raffle will be held on Saturday, February 18th at The Philadelphia Ballroom on Hornig Rd. in Philadelphia, PA to help with the student loans left behind and unexpected funeral costs. All monies raised will be given to the family to relieve some of the financial burden they are now faced with.

Please consider donating a Gift Basket, Gift Certificate, cash or item to be raffled. As a donor, your contribution will be recognized at the benefit and all associated events.

Any help is appreciated and we will arrange to pick up your donation at your convenience. So we can properly acknowledge your generosity, please be sure to include any business cards/brochures we can use to promote your business. For more info or
