Bill and Dan from Philly

The guys were a little surprised that Jrue Holiday was the one to leave but in the end it was the right move.

You both sound very professional on the mic! Love commenting with you on Philly.com about the 76ers. While losing Jrue hurts but getting Noel and drafting MCW sets the team up for the future. With the right draft picks next summer (our own 1st rounder and the Pelican's lottery protected 1-5) the chances of drafting a potential superstar are higher. In the meantime going to enjoy the youth on the 87ers and 76ers and watch this team grow the right way. There will be lots of cap room to sign free agents & make trades to fill in holes when this team is ready to take the next step in a few years.

@Joecooler2u JC....thank you....what are your thoughts on this Omer Asik rumors...it kinda goes against the grain of what I think Hinkie is trying do as far as gather as much cap flexibility as possible for 2014 off season???

Not sure anyone could not love these guys....first bearsfriend is absolutely the TOP blooger on philly.com and has been for years. Highly knowledgeable and bbrady always seems to get it...I laugh but I think he knows the NBA salary cap as well as Hinkie.

Great vid....I hope you win...I certainly would listen.

i completely agree with these guys letting go of Jrue Holiday and freeing up some cap space will let the Sixers make major moves in the future and become a strong contender in the eastern conference in the next 2-3 years
    1. crusader63 posted on 07/02/2013 02:13 PM
@hanleyj HJ....it really is the only way for an organization that isn't part of NBA elite (Boston-LA-Miami etc) to turn things around and become not just relevant but a championship contender.

I know there is risk but so is spending $85M on someone like Elton Brand....just an example.

This is chuckw from Philly.com strongly endorsing Bill Brady and Dan Willig, both extremely knowledgable and articulate about Philly sports, in fact, about far more than simply Philly sports. Many people, of course, know Dan as Bearsfriend and Bill as BBrady25 on the comment boards at Philly.com, not only for their in-depth analyses but also for their humor and at times willingness to combat posters who are buffoons, all of which will serve them well on 97.5. Of course, once they get the job, many of us will call in and challenge them, making I would hope, for interesting listening and good ratings for the station and, yes, they each have looks made for radio (I kid). I wish them both well in this contest.

As long as Dan pledges to seek help in his addiction to shameless three putting within 10 feet, with great valor and vicissitude I humbly endorse the above offering. Both dan/bear and bill/bbrady are members in good standing of The Boardwalk Division, and therefore understand what it takes for the Sixers in particular (and the other teams in general) to get off the schnide of Virginia Avenue and become true knights in the land of navy blue properties. These guys know the sports scene, have a fair eye while simultaneously being willing to call out the idiots who run the franchises (for their obvious idiocy). Any executive group who does not choose them as the contest winner should donate their brains to science, because they are surely not using them. Yes, this means you! Lastly, Rocinante' sends his regards, with his unwavering belief in the power of free hay.

Do you hear me Harris? Hay!!!

With respect for many of the sports reporters at Philly.Com, the story is secondary to the comments page. The information Bill and Dan bring boggles the mind. In Dan's case I often thought, is this guy some baseball exec? Then you go to the Sixers page's and here he is, bringing more info to the story then the beat writers. His knowledge of the players on OTHER teams and his passion for the Phil's minor league teams simply blows my mind. Now that the Delaware 87ers are on the scene, there's no doubt he will have first hand knowledge of every player soon to come onto that roster. Go to a local news story and he can be found there on occasion; one of the few reasonable folks to be found there. If his posts are any indication, he is a class guy, through and through. The same can all be said for Bill. Although not as prolific a poster as Dan, what he says is always spot on. He's got the respect of everyone posting, no small feat!

97.5 doesn't realize they hit a grand slam here with these two gentleman and I wish them nothing but the best! To quote Buddy Ryan: "You've got a winner in town!" Bill and Dan are going to surprise a lot of people......but not me. These guys are top shelf.....

@Independent_1 wow...Quixote,River Rat, and Independent_1 represent the meat of the order of a very formiddable lineup...Someday, maybe we can get to hear the voices behind some brilliant minds.BTW, Tyler Hansbrough just became an unrestricted Free Agent, as the Pacers gave David West a pot of gold ($36 mil,3 yrs)...While the Sixers will first see if Arnett gets it done in Summer League, Hansbrough or Ivan Johnson could represent a couple of agitators/energetic wrecking balls the Sixers so desperately need...
      Summer League Roster adds Minnesota's Trevor Mbekwa to the alreadhy in the fold...Rodney Williams,Justin Holiday,Arsalan Kazemi,Micheal Eric,James Southerland,DJ Cooper,Michael Carter-WIlliams,Arnnett Moultrie,Zeke Marshall....Curry has the coaching audition,

Here in Siberia I thought I would make a comment.

I find the Jerardi/Howard Sheridan/Manuel pieces again indicate that the newsroom has a very thin skin when it comes to posters who do not blindly cheer for the home team. Both of these pieces weren't so much pure PR handouts from the Phillies. They were simply another instance of the "insider" media guys laying the smackdown on the upstart posters who think they know so much and dare to make intelligent comments about Howard and Manuel from their observation posts in the peasant's fields. It was lecturing the fanbase without the extended finger (no, not that one.)

It must be a bit depressing when civilian part-timers are better at your job than you are. The knee-jerk "we know better and here's why" columns are just neuralgia side effects of that depression.

Still waiting for a Harris/Hinkle/Hay announcement.

@Quixote Quixote, it appears some writers need jobs, and they cannot sustain the cruelties you have experienced as a once honest scribe that had more talent in your pinky than some use in their careers...Although Sam and Josh's lips are currently tighter than the fairways were at Merion at the US Open, Mr Hinkie didn't become summa cum laude at Oklahoma by handing out his notes to everybody....While at the post-Draft PC (which I heard on 97.5 THE FANATIC), Hinkie said the silent treatment to date was to fend off opposition's awareness level as to which prospects the Sixers valued...Similar sounds of silence are present now with the coaching search, even though there is now no longer an open vacancy other than the Sixers'...While Michael Curry's doing the "on the job" audition, we as fans have to sit tight...and TRUST (not necessarily a Philly strongpoint...patience)....BTW, someday it would really be cool to take a call from you, although you'd have to scale down the vocabulary for me!
